Westcomm was proud to host the inaugural Heart of the Industry (HOTI) event on April 4th, 2014. We would like to thank our gold sponsors: ITT Goulds, Nidec Motors, All-Flo Pumps, and Diablo Oilfield Services. We would also like to thank the donors of the silent auction: Copeman Healthcare, Lauren Engineering, Spartan Controls, Alcro Electric, GE Motors, Maxfield Inc., Lexus of Calgary, Tundra Process & Controls, and Flowserve. With the help of these industry partners, we were able to raise $8,000, with proceeds donated to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thank you also to our presenters who made the day both educational and memorable.
It is astounding when we realize the similarities between industrial pumps and the human heart. The heart is a muscle that receives energy from blood carrying oxygen and nutrients. Having a constant supply of blood keeps your heart working properly. Maintaining one’s heart is critical to a healthy body, and it takes proper diet and exercise habits to ensure a long and healthy life. Pumps are often referred to as the heart of an operation as they transport fluids through a plant’s “arteries” to its many critical processes. Without pumps, production of a plant would cease to exist. The responsible operation and maintenance of pumps is critical in maximizing their efficiency and reliability, which ultimately reflects on the profitability of an operation.
